According to Catalin Homor, the general manager of Bucharest subway operator Metrorex, the Raul Doamnei – Eroilor (Line 5) and the Bazilescu Park – Straulesti (Line 4) will be completed at the end of next year, reports local Mediafax.
Homor also said that the company didn’t plan any layoffs, and it would recruit new staff once Line 5 will be put into operation.
Bucharest’s subway Line 5 is one of the most important projects of urban infrastructure in Romania, as it connects one of the city’s largest residential areas to the center. Some 65,000 people are to use this line daily. The line’s first section, of about 7 km, will have ten stops: Eroilor, Academia Militara, Orizont, Favorit, Tudor Vladimirescu, Parc Drumul Taberei, Romancierilor, Valea Ialomitei, Valea Argesului, and Raul Doamnei.
In the case of Bazilescu Park – Straulesti section (Line 4), the project involves the expansion of the current line with two more stops towards the north of the city – Laminorului and Lac Straulesti.
Italian company Astaldi is involved in the construction of both lines.
Catalin Homor also said that Metrorex didn’t plan to increase the ticket prices by the end of the year. (source: Romania-insider.com)
