Carpatcement sales decreased 7% in 2012
The construction materials producer Carpatcement, the local branch of the German group HeidelbergCement, reported a turnover of EUR 195 million for 2012, 7% lower than in 2011.
The company accuse the extreme weather conditions of the first four months of last year and the market diminution with 0.2% comparing to 2011, according to the National Institute of Statistics numbers.
Despite the diminution of the turnover and sale volumes, Carpatcement succeeded in increasing with 12.5% of its profit comparing to last year, mainly due to the reorganisation of costs and increasing the revenue through the products mix, through vertical integration and the well-balanced price-quality report. The company registered EUR 36 million profit in 2012, comparing to EUR 32 million in 2011.
At the group level, HeidelbergCement registered a profit growth up to 2%, reaching EUR 545 million. As for the sales, HeidelbergCement obtained only 1.4% growth due to the poor demand in Europe, which was however attenuated by the volumes growth in North America, Asia-Pacific and Africa.
Carpatcement has three cement factories in Romania (at Fieni, Deva and Bicaz), with a total production capacity of 6.05 million tonnes. Carpatcement shares the market with Holcim and Lafarge. (source: capital.ro)
